So as I wiped the dried crust out of both my eyes, too tired to stay up and watch the official CNN ticker that would finally name our democratic nominee, I woke up to some very strange headlines. "Analysis: Can Clinton Rebound", "Can Obama Be Overtaken?" "Is the Democratic Race Over?" *frowns* WHOA! Wait a minute, isn't that exactly what last nights primary results proved? Barack Obama, the most viable democratic candidate, set out and achieved exactly what he said he would. He won by a HUGE margin of 14 points in North Carolina while Hilary barely eeked a win out of her "game changing" state of Indiana. So what could the problem be you ask?
My guess, the race card :( And as much as I uberly dislike using this stance, I can't help but think that America, a country socialized through the stigmas attached to being of the wrong race, class, and gender, is still rather reticent to back a Black candidate. Although far removed from the political blunders of Jessie "the innovator, co-creator, and political couplet originator" Jackson and Rev. Al "TCB, just for me kiddie perm" Sharpton, one still has to realize its impact on the electoral process. C'mon lets just be candid about our candidacy for a moment. When you hash out the facts, the issues and the policies, Hil and Racky are mostly strumming to the same tune. Aside from varying approaches to taxes in relationship to oil prices, their only differences lie in something that neither one of them choose to be: a white woman and a black man. Rather disheartening BUT true. The Democratic nominee has been choosen! Hilary, although it was a GREAT run, you need to bow out gracefully. Have some dignity woman! There's no need to continue these shenanigans (shout out to my Irish 3rd grade teacher for being the first person to label my tomfoolery as such). Time to shift our focus from Clinton/Obama, to Obama in the White House! Eeeeeeoooooow! DOWN, Down, down...Red Knights going down!
